What makes a family? Is it sharing blood or having the same genes? Is it sharing memories of both the good an bad times? Is it being close to a person and knowing you can rely on them to always be there for you, no matter what? Perhaps it’s standing by someone when they need you, loving someone so much that when they hurt, you hurt; forgiving them no matter the hurt they cause and loving them when no-one else will. Maybe it’s a mix of all these things; maybe it’s none of them.
A family can be made up of many different parts. Family fights, loves, hurts, heals, gives and takes. Family makes you smile, laugh, cry, scream, dream and come crashing back down to earth. Most of all family always, always returns and will always remain in your heart; even when they have long faded from your memory.
Someone once said “You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family.” Sure, they were talking about blood relations, but family - true family - are the people you choose to surround yourself with for the rest of your life.
